teach at the Escuela Técnica Superior de
Ingeniería de Bilbao
(School of Engineering) of the University
of the Basque Country. These
courses are a part of the Mastes/Doctoral program in Advanced Materials
(Máster universitario en ingeniería de materiales
avanzados). Link |

| Courses: | ||||||
| Scientific
Writing (Ilya Reviakine) |
||||||
| The
course is aimed Masters and Doctoral students with a reasonable level
of English and consists of lectures, presentations by the students, and
computer tutorials. The material covered in lectures will focus on
scientific communication and specifically deal with the processes of
reading and writing scienfitif articles and preparing / delivering
poster and oral presentations. In the form of practical exercises, each
student will be assigned an article to read and present in class. In
the tutorials, the students will work with bibliographic software and
databases. Course is evaluation is based on four or five written
assignments + the presentation. |

| Topics
in Molecular Biophysics (José-Luis Toca-Herrera, Ralf Richter, Ilya Reviakine) |
||||||
| The
course is aimed at Masters and Doctoral students and is suitable for
students with non-biological background who would like to receive an
introduction into the world of biophysics from the physical and
engineering perspective. The course covers fundamental chemistry,
physics, and biology concepts relevant in biophysics and bioengineering
research, such as acid-base chemistry, protein structure and function,
nucleic acid organization, properties and function, cell membrane
organization and dynamics, polymer conformation and dynamics, colloidal
phenomena and forces that underlie colloidal behavior, and relevant
measurement techniques. Format of the course: lectures, tutorials, assigned reading. The course is evaluated based on student participation in discussions and problem solving assignments. |
